Summer Flower and Leaf Collage
This is an easy nature activity for children of ages two and up. It could be classed as Being Creative and Competent Learner under Birth to Three and Creative Development or Knowledge and Understanding of the World under the Foundation Stage.
A piece of card, which can be the inside of a cereal packet.
Wide double sided tape (availble from diy stores usually next to masking tape).
Garden, wood or park where you can gather flowers or folliage.
Attach the double sided tape to the card and allow children to remove backing tape. Tell them to look for interesting flowers and leaves to create a collage on thier tape.
Accompany the children and monitor what they are picking to make sure no harmful or protected plants are picked.
Older children can make mini landscapes using leaves as trees and small flowers as bushes. Some younger children align all their plants while others enjoy picking their flowers but don't worry about what it looks like.
I have done this activity at Polesdon Lacey and then twice in my garden once just picking flowers and another picking herbs.
